Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Down Boy

ニュー・ヨーク・パンクの文学性と、ホワイト・ストライプス (The White Stripes)やストロークス (The Strokes) に通じるガレージ・サウンドで2001年のデビュー以来絶大な人気を誇るＮＹのスリー・ピース、ヤー・ヤー・ヤーズ (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)。

2006年には、英ＮＭＥ誌の年間ベスト・アルバム、米ローリング・ストーン誌で収録曲 "Cheated Hearts"が「ベスト・ソング・トップ10」に選ばれるなど各音楽メディアで絶賛されたセカンド・アルバム Show Your Bones をリリース。

そして2007年に入り、パブリック・イメージ・リミテッド (Public Image Ltd.) の名作 The Flowers of Romance 等を手掛けてきたプロデューサー／エンジニア、ニック・ローネイ (Nick Launay) をプロデューサーに迎え制作された５曲入りのＥＰ Is Is のハイライト・トラック "Down Boy"。

神秘的なキーボードの旋律をバックに、マッシヴ・アタック (Massive Attack) "Five Man Army" を彷彿とさせるリム・ショットが不穏に響く、静寂に包まれたヴァース。

ホワイト・ストライプス (The White Stripes)が最新作 Icky Thump で展開したサウンドに通じる、より強度を増したニック･ジナー （Nick Zinner） の荒々しい爆音ギターが炸裂するフック＆ブリッジ。

より表現力とエロティズムを増したカレンＯ（Karen O）の妖艶なヴォーカル。

ニック・ローネイの空間的なプロダクションと、静と動が激しく交差するサウンド、カレンＯの存在感のある歌声が三位一体となり、さらなる成長を遂げたヤー・ヤー・ヤーズのサウンドが堪能できる名曲です♫
