Interpol - Rest My Chemistry

ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンド (Velvet Underground) やオリジナル・ＮＹ・パンク・バンド、テレヴィション (Television) から、ジョイ・ディヴィジョン (Joy Division), エコー＆ザ・バニーメン (Echo & the Bunnymen) らのパンク／ニュー・ウェーヴの流れを汲むニュー・ヨークの４ピース・ロック・バンド、インターポール (Interpol)。

マイナー・コードによるソリッドなギターと文学性、神秘性を感じさせる歌詞によるサウンドでマタドール (Matador Records) から2002年に名作『Turn on the Bright Lights』でデビューし、2004年には全米アルバム・チャートのトップ２０にランクインしたセカンド『Antics』をリリース。

そして、メジャーのキャピトルに移籍後初となる2007年のサード『Our Love to Admire』。

プロデューサーに、ミューズ (Muse), フランツ・フェルディナンド (Franz Ferdinand) を手掛けたリッチ・コスティ (Rich Costey) を迎え、ギターのダニエル・ケスラー (Daniel Kessler) が「第５のメンバー」と呼ぶピアノ／シンセ等のキーボード・サウンドを導入したアルバムのハイライト・トラック “Rest My Chemistry”。

ダイナミックなドラム・ビートに深く沈みこむようなベース・ラインが絡んだヒップホップ・テイストのへヴィーなリズム。

クラシカルなピアノや空間的なシンセにインターポール・サウンドの要であるダーク＆ソリッドなギター・ワークとレディオヘッド (Radiohead) "Creep" を彷彿とさせるトレモロがブレンドされた叙情的かつ空間的なサウンド。

ジョイ・ディヴィジョンのイアン・カーティス (Ian Curtis) を引き合いに出される歌声と文学的なリリックによるポール・バンクス (Paul Banks) の抑制の効いたヴォーカル。

キーボードを導入した空間的なサウンドとリッチ・コスティのダイナミックなプロダクションに、インターポールが元来持っている叙情性が見事に融合した傑作です♫
